Siege of Basra (1803) It is a siege imposed by Saud I on the city of Basra to control it in order to open the way to Souq Al-Shuyoukh and eliminate Al-Muntafiq.

The Siege

[edit]

Saud I arrived at the outskirts of the city of Basra with a very large group of fighters heading to the city of Basra. When they reached it, they surrounded it and fought the governor of Basra, Ibrahim Agha, but the governor of Basra fought hard and was determined to defend the city. When the situation became difficult for the people of the city, they called for help from Al-Muntafiq, and the army of Al-Muntafiq arrived in support. The governor of Basra was led by the Emir of Al-Muntafiq, Hamoud bin Thamer Al-Saadoun. When Al-Muntafiq arrived, the two armies met, and then the Diriyah army became besieged, the Diriyah army was defeated, and Saud I fled to his homeland. Thus, the siege ended with the victory of the defenders.[2] [3]
